Tips for biking and hiking trips

Just off the beaten track and away from the well-known routes, the Netherlands offers beauty, peace and as much adventure as the major Dutch attractions.

The most special biking routes?

The Dutch bicycle paths together cover about 35,000 kilometres. There are many routes that lead you past castles, through nature reserves or to, for example, the Vaalserberg, the highest point of the Netherlands.

Enjoyable and beautiful routes can be found on Dutch websites for cyclists like: Nederland Fietsland and the Fietsersbond. The free Bicycle Route Planner offers you one of the most complete Dutch route planners.

If you select Vrienden op de Fiets POIs (Points Of Interest), you can even map your route along Guest Addresses (see image).

For trips to and in Belgium, you can make use of Fietsnet.

And, finally...
Are you planning a multi-day bicycle trip?
Don’t forget to stay at one of the many Guest Addresses of Vrienden op de Fiets.

The most special hiking routes?

The Netherlands boasts hiking trails that together cover no less than 10,000 kilometres. You can, for example, hike along a few stages of several long-distance hiking trails (Dutch acronym LAW), Klompenpaden (Clog Trails) or Streekpaden (Regional Trails). Our partners offer great sources of inspiration.

Check out the Dutch hiking websites Wandelnet or Mooisteroutes.nl, for instance.

Are you looking for a like-minded hiker to travel with? Perhaps you’ll meet one at the Dutch meeting place for hikers: De Wandelpool.
